Assistant Director, Community Center


Listing Summary

This position is responsible for assisting in the overall administration of the center. Plans, organizes, and administers a comprehensive program to provide leadership and direction to the Community Center staff; carries out the duties of the center under the direction of the Community Center Director.
Pay Grade 20 – starting at $37,431.81
 Oversees the administration of all departmental programs, operations, and facilities.
 Oversees the planning and implementation of a comprehensive program of leisure services.
 Promotes departmental programs through adequate marketing of all leisure services offered to citizens.
 Attends meetings of City Council.
 Performs other related duties as assigned.
 High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration or related field preferred.
 Extensive experience in office management and administration.
 Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform essential function of the job.
 Knowledge of the principles and practices of public and recreation administration.
 Knowledge of relevant laws, departmental and safety guidelines, and city codes, policies and procedures.
 Knowledge of budgetary processes and procedures.
 Skill in supervision.
 Skill in planning and organizing leisure services.
 Skill in public speaking.
 Skill in interpersonal relations.
 Skill in oral and written communication.
 Skill in applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks.
 Ability to independently organize staff and programs to meet goals.
 The work is reviewed through meetings, reports, and observation of departmental activities.
 An advanced level of interpersonal skill necessary in order to provide effective leadership to subordinate personnel and to develop cooperative working relationships
 Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department.
 Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Performs duties as assigned by the Community Center Director.
Guidelines include city policies and procedures; City of Lovejoy Employee Handbook and Safety Manual.
The purpose of this position is to direct the activities of the Lovejoy Community Center. Successful performance helps ensure the effective delivery of recreation and leisure services, thereby improving the quality of life for citizens and enhancing the image of the Center.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee may be occasionally exposed to wet and dry conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderate to loud when in the facility or during functions and activities.
Supervises Community Center staff. Works under the supervision of the Community Center Director.
