Located in historic Butts County just 40 miles south of Atlanta, Jackson is a progressive and diverse city, rich in history and culture. Historic homes, big city amenities, and small-town charms abound as you drive through our area. Founded in 1826, Jackson boasts a pro-business environment with an unsurpassed quality of life. Jackson is minutes away from beautiful Jackson Lake, Indian Springs State Park, High Falls State Park, and Dauset Trails Nature Center. Our easy access to 135 miles of lake shoreline, more than 10 miles of hiking / biking trail connections, and easy access to the metropolitan areas of both Atlanta and Macon, make Jackson a desirable destination and place to call home.

The city is currently transitioning from a Mayor – Council form of government to a Council – Manager form of government and is looking for its first full time City Manager. The Council consist of five council members and a mayor who are responsible for setting priorities and policies to maintain and enhance the city’s quality of life. The city manager will be appointed by the council and will serve as the chief administrative officer to provide leadership, management, and direction to its departments. The city is a full-service government providing police and fire services, administrative services, public works, as well as water and sewer, and electric utilities.

The city is in search of a highly motivated leader with effective communication skills, budgeting experience, organizational effectiveness and efficiencies, and an impeccable ethical foundation. Skill in intergovernmental relations and building partnerships with local and regional agencies will be critical. Utility experience will be a plus. Visionary leadership and the ability to navigate a political environment with experience collaborating with elected officials will be essential.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a field related to local government administration, with a Masters degree preferred. Local government experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the city and its department will be favorably considered. The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 depending on qualifications.
