JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

The City of Duluth, Georgia, (pop. 30,000) is accepting applications for the position of CHIEF BUILDING OFFICIAL in the Department of Planning & Development.

The Chief Building Official manages and directs the programs and activities of the Building Division within the Planning and Development Department that includes permit processing and plan check functions to ensure compliance with adopted codes, including the International Building, Plumbing and Mechanical Codes, and the National Electrical Code, and federal/state/local ordinances, standards, policies, and laws. This classification assists with the most complex inspections and provides fiscal oversight for program budget. The Chief Building Official manages a staff of professional and technical employees (employees and/or contractors) and provides daily direction, planning, scheduling work activities and monitoring to ensure consistent and uniform application of codes and standards.

Qualifications:
• Must be eligible to be a sworn city official with ability to issue city citations.
• Degree from an accredited college or university in civil or structural engineering, architecture, architectural engineering, construction management or related field.
• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction building inspection, building design, plan review, civil engineering, or closely related field, at least two (2) of which must be in a supervisory role; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certifications including Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Building, or Combination Inspector or Plan Examiner by the International Conference of Building Officials or the International Code Council.
• Preference will be given to applicants that possess an ICC Certification as a Certified Building Official certification. If not certified by ICC as a Chief Building Official (CBO), applicant must demonstrate he/she is in the process of getting the certification and must obtain it within twelve (12) months of employment.
• Preference will be given to applicants that possess a valid Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Level I B Certification or better. If not already certified, applicant agrees he/she is will obtain it within twelve (12) months of employment.
