Listing Summary
As a Building Inspector I, II, or III, you will be responsible for inspecting residential and commercial construction sites for compliance with architectural, structural, mechanical (heating, ventilation, air conditioning), electrical, plumbing, and erosion control code and ordinance requirements, and applicable approved plans.
Other essential duties:
- Conducting field inspections of residential and commercial structures.
- Preparing reports, forms, citations, and other code compliance information, and documenting in the department databases.
- Responding to inquiries and concerns received from developers, contractors, homeowners, and other customers pertinent to building construction and erosion control code compliance and corrective actions.
- Building Inspector III only: Assisting lower-level personnel with the interpretation of applicable codes, ordinances, and laws, and the inspection of construction sites.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
All levels require:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid driver’s license
- NPDES Level 1B Erosion Control Inspector certification within six months of employment
Building Inspector I (grade B22(2))
- Two years of related construction or trades experience*
- One ICC or BOAG certification according to the area of assignment within one year of employment
Building Inspector II (grade B24(2))
- Three years of related construction or trades experience*
- One year of code enforcement/inspection experience
- One (1) ICC or BOAG certification according to the area of assignment
Building Inspector III (grade B25(2))
- Five years of related construction or trades experience*
- Three years of code enforcement/inspection experience or a Georgia professional license (Conditioned Air, Electrical, or Plumbing)
- Supervisory experience preferred
Level III applicants assigned to Structural Inspections will require:
- ICC Residential Combination Certification or equivalent
- ICC or BOAG Commercial Inspector Certification.
Level III applicants lacking a Georgia professional license assigned to Plumbing, Mechanical (HVAC), or Electrical Inspections will require:
- One ICC or BOAG Certification according to area of assignment
- ICC Residential Combination Certification or equivalent
- ICC or BOAG Commercial Inspector Certification
Level III applicants with a Georgia professional license will require:
- One ICC or BOAG Certification according to area of assignment within one year of employment
- ICC Residential Combination Certification or equivalent within two years of employment
*An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to competently perform the essential duties of the position will also be considered for all levels.
Base Hiring Salary Ranges:
Building Inspector I: $37,222 - $48,387
Building Inspector II: $44,022 - $57,228
Building Inspector III: $47,873 - $62,234
Salary will depend on qualifications.
