Listing Summary

As a Principal Planner assigned to the Planning Division, you will be responsible for monitoring the implementation, amendments, and five-year updates of the County’s 2040 Unified Plan and Community Work Program; pursuing funding from the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) for new Livable Centers Initiative planning areas and supportive studies including Community Development Assistance Program funding. You will report directly to the Planning Division Director.  
 
Other essential duties include:

• Performing and managing complex professional planning projects, research, and analysis
• Communicating with residents, developers, design professionals, county departments, and others
• Completing special planning projects regarding community, economic and community development, redevelopment, and comprehensive land use planning
• Completing project scopes-of-work, budgets, and timelines for major projects
• Preparing and submitting grant applications for long range planning studies
• Developing collaborative relationships with planning partners including the ARC, GA Department of Community Affairs, and the Council for Quality Growth
• Conducting special projects including master planning, research and analysis of planning and zoning-related topics, community engagement, education, and others
• Developing public engagement strategies that maximize community involvement in planning projects, reducing barriers to participation, and meaningfully engaging with under-represented groups

 
 Public speaking duties include:

• Representing the County on the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Land Use Coordination Committee

 
Minimum Qualifications:
 

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, landscape architecture, geographic information system (GIS), computer science, planning, or a related field*
• Five years of planning experience*
• Two years of supervisory experience

*An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job as listed above will also be considered.
 
Desired Qualifications 
 

• Master’s degree in engineering, landscape architecture, geographic information system (GIS), computer science, planning, or a related field
• Experience managing the creation and update of comprehensive plans, Livable Centers Initiative plans, and other master planning projects
• AICP certification

Salary range: $68,696.00 - $79,859.00
Salary will be based on qualifications.
