Job Summary


The purpose of this classification is to oversee and participate in sanitation services and enforce the City’s ordinance.


·Performs customer service functions; 60 percent of time spent driving doing routine inspections of garbage cans, containers, and garbage collection areas and routes; provides costs for special pickup services; responds to complaints and questions related to contractor operations; provides information, research problems, and initiates problem resolution; enrolls new customers for services and assist sanitations financial technician with delinquent accounts.

·Supervises and assist with delivery of trash containers to commercial customers; records data pertaining to each container issued or picked up, including customer name/address, date delivered or picked up, size and level of service; delivers containers to other locations within the City as required.

·Consults with officials and other departments to review division operations/activities; receives advice/directions and provides recommendations. 

·Performs administrative tasks; prepares and submits production reports, data entry to IWork platform; follow up and email updates.

·Initiates requests for new or replacement trash carts or dumpsters as required.

·Picks up roadkill; supervises and organize clean sweeps

·Writes citations for illegal dumping and illegal items placed in a right-of-way, and other violations of the city ordinance; Issue summons and appear in court.

·Inspects garbage cans containers and garbage collection areas.

·Patrol city limits to observe, document, and correct issues or violations.

·Performs other related duties as required.


Education and Experience:

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; and three (3) years of related experience that includes collection operations and equipment operation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications:                                                            

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of related city policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of city streets and addresses
  • Knowledge of basic computer skill and electronics
  • Ability to operate assigned vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to analyze problems, develop and implement solutions 
  • Ability to communicate through writing and oral. 


The work is heavy which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.


·Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.

·Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.

·Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.

·Visual Acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.


Work may be performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, temperature and noise extremes, fumes, hazardous materials, machinery, traffic hazards, bright/dim light, or toxic agents.
