Gordon County, Georgia is accepting applications for the position of DIRECTOR OF BUILDING, PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT. This position will also serve as the chief building official.
The director manages and directs the programs and activities of the Building, Planning and Development Department that includes permit processing and plan check functions to insure compliance with adopted codes, including the International Building, Residential, Plumbing and Mechanical Codes, and the National Electrical Code, and federal/state/local ordinances, standards, policies, and laws. The director provides flood plain management and Soil Erosion and Sedimentation ordinances. The director serves as the Chief Building Inspector and performs field inspections and provides technical assistance to employees and the public. The director provides fiscal oversight for the program budget. The director manages a staff of professional and technical employees and provides daily direction, planning, scheduling work activities and monitoring to ensure consistent uniform application of codes and standards.

Qualifications:

• Degree from an accredited college or university in civil or structural engineering, architecture, architectural engineering, construction management or related field is preferred.
• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction building inspection, building design, plan review or related field, at least two (2) of which must be in a supervisory role; or any equivalent field, combination of education and experience.
• Certifications including Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Building, or Combination Inspector by the International Conference of Building Officials or the International Code Council.
• Preference will be given to applicants that possess an ICC Certification as a Certified Building Official. If not certified by ICC as a Chief Building Official (CBO), applicant must demonstrate he/she is in the process of getting certification and must obtain within twelve (12) months of employment.
