Applicants must be currently or formerly working as a sworn law enforcement officer employed by a city, county, or state agency to be eligible for hire. We have sucessfullly processed recent lateral out of state officers under the new system, the State of Georgia is now one of the easiest states to lateral transfer to.
We are looking for only Certified Law Enforcement Officers at this time.
Employment as a security officer or military police officer does not qualify the applicant or meet the above listed qualification.

The City of Watkinsville located in Oconee County, and currently covers 3.2 square miles and serves a residential population of just over 3000 and growing to 5500 when all developments are complete, a higher daily population occurs due to business and industry.
Under new leadership the Watkinsville PD is recreating its image as an agency and working towards State Certification. The “motto” of the Watkinsville PD is “Professional Service“ we strive to live up to this in all our actions. Watkinsville is a very family oriented community and the Department is very focused on providing the highest level of service possible to its citizens.
Watkinsville PD is made up currently of eleven sworn Officers and two uniform patrol Sergeant’s, all of which work a standard twelve hour shift with day/night rotation, the Sergeant’s work an overlapping shift to supervise the Officers on their rotation. Our Department is growing as we add new Officer positions to the Patrol Section.
An extensive benefit package includes better than average pay for our area, with yearly merit increases (evaluation dependent), cost of living increases (if approved), yearly bonuses (if approved), medical/dental/vision insurance which the City pays 75 % of the costs, 3 % retirement plan after twelve months of employment, 50K life insurance policy paid by the city, a liberal take home vehicle program, all uniforms and equipment, nine paid City holidays, 96 hours of vacation first year and 192 hours from year two. SIGN ON BONUS OF $10,000.00 DOLLARS. Base salary depending on applicant qualifications, starts at $ 43,788.00 - 49,119.00 depending on training,experience and insurance selections. This is an hourly position with paid overtime, 171 plan. We have multiple overtime oppourtunites and details to supplement Officer income. We are expecting a pay increase to take effect on July 01, 2022 depending on approval of city council.
The Department is very “training” oriented and routinely conducts in house training and sends its Officers to out of town training.
Officers currently wear navy blue duty uniforms with Armor Skin outer vest carriers, and carry issued Glock 17MOS with Trijicon RMR red dot sights, fixed iron sights and weapon light as a primary side arm and issued Glock compact back up side arms, issued Mossberg Less Lethal 12 gauge Munition Weapon and issued AR15 Patrol Rifles with electronic sights. Intermediate weapons carried are OC spray, baton and the Tazer 7 multi shot electronic restraint weapon. The Department is on the 800mzh communication system using in car Mobile Data Terminals, WatchGuard In Car and Body Camera's, License Plate Readers, DL Scanners and Radars on all vehicles and dispatched by the Oconee County Sheriff Communication Center.
Our vehicle fleet consists largely of Ford Interceptor Utility Suv's, one newly planned Ford F150 Enforcer Pickup, one newly planned Ford SUV and two newly planned BMW R1200RTP motorcycles. Motor duty is open to all officers upon completion of required training and is a daylight only function, the motorcyles are not a take home unit. An addition of a planned narcotics detection canine is in the agency near future dependant upon city council approval.
All applicants selected for processing must pass an Interview, Medical review, Psychological examination and extensive Background Investigation of both on duty and off duty conduct.
