Lamar County is actively seeking qualified candidates for the position of Accountant. This position is responsible for providing accounting support for the county’s financial operations. Guidelines include the county code, federal and state laws, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Generally Accepted Governmental Accounting Principles, and various grant compliance requirements. Manages annual audit including preparing year-end journal entries, providing analytical information, and coordinating with County personnel and external auditing firm. Reviews and analyzes general ledger and budgetary information. Supervises the work of assigned office personnel involved in bookkeeping, budgeting, purchasing, and general accounting. Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or 3-5 years’ experience with a progressive accounting background. Must be familiar with GAAP and GASB standards. Strong accounting/finance background in government management, accounting, budget, audit, cost control, investments, and financial analysis required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
