The City of Duluth, Georgia (pop. 30,000) is accepting applications for the position of LICENSE & CODE COMPLIANCE INSPECTOR for the Planning & Development Department.

This is a full-time entry-level professional position responsible for enforcing compliance with all applicable City codes and regulations regarding zoning, occupational licensing, alcohol licensing, and property maintenance.  This position reports directly to the Code Enforcement Manager. The employee will establish a proactive inspection schedule for businesses and other assigned areas to ensure compliance with all regulations, investigate complaints, research information, and determine appropriate actions to take.


  • Employees in this position must be at least 18 years of age and must be able to accept work in the United States.
  • A High School diploma, state-issued GED, or equivalent is required. A degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Must be eligible to be a sworn city official with ability to issue city citations.
  • Previous work experience in license or code enforcement is preferred.
  • Training and accreditation from a recognized institution in license compliance, code enforcement, business administration, public administration, criminal justice, or a closely related area is desirable.
  • Written and/or spoken fluency in a foreign language (particularly Spanish or Korean) is desirable.
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation including a drug screening test.
  • Must possess an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and maintain it throughout employment; must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license.
  • Must be willing to work various hours and various days of the week, including evenings and weekends

Hiring range is $19.48 - $21.50/hour, based on qualifications.
