Chatham County Public Works Department seeks a professional with proven management expertise to oversee this vital department's financial and administrative responsibilities. If you have a Bachelor's Degree with at least five (5) years' senior-level administrative experience in a maintenance, construction, or municipal infrastructure environment, consider applying for our Deputy Director position in Public Works.
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Public Works Director, you will be responsible for the financial and administrative activities of the Public Works Department, which encompasses Solid Waste, Stormwater, Road Maintenance, and Sewer Systems. Your financial and administrative activities will include budget oversight and reconciliation, employee timekeeping, interviewing, hiring, employee relations, and workers compensation. You will develop and implement departmental budgets and monitor allotments and authorizations. You will prepare, present, and justify various financial and staffing reports to senior leadership. You will research and analyze departmental operations and recommend solutions to create efficiencies. You will work closely with the Deputy Director of Operations to ensure adequate staffing levels for all areas. Customer service skills are essential as you interact with Commissioners, County Management, employees, and citizens. You will be responsible for effectively handling citizens' concerns and promoting a safe and harmonious workplace. You may serve as the Director in the Director's absence. Other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Management, Finance, or a related field, and five (5) years' experience in senior-level administration in construction, public works, municipal infrastructure or closely related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master's degree in Business or Public Administration preferred. You must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
