Job Summary

The Water & Sewer System Operator installs, repairs, and maintains water and sewer mains and lines.

 

Essential Job Functions

• Installs, maintains, and repairs water and sewer mains and lines;
• Operates a backhoe, trencher, front-end loader, and dump truck to install water and sewer services;
• Locates and repairs leaks in water and sewer lines;
• Makes water and sewer taps;
• Maintains wells; adds chemicals and performs preventive maintenance;
• Sets water meters;
• Performs preventive maintenance procedures on assigned equipment;
• Operates a boring machine to install water and sewer pipe;
• Flushes and cleans water and sewer lines;
• Answers emergency service calls as required;
• Sets barricades, cones, and warning signs at work sites.

 

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED;
• One (1) year of experience in a related field;
• Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and 
• Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License;
• Water Distribution System Operator certification within 12 months of employment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualification -

• Plumbing Experience;
• Equipment Experience to include a backhoe, trencher, front-end loader, and/or dump truck.

The selected candidate must complete the following requirements prior to starting work with the City of Statesboro:

• Background Investigation
• Pre-Employment Urinalysis
• Pre-Employment Physical (If Applicable)
