Field Supervisor


Listing Summary

General Duties:  The Field Supervisor assists the Public Works Director in managing the Cities Water System, Sewer System, Street Dept, and City Facilities and equipment.  This Person also assists the Public Works Director in scheduling daily work and supervising staff.


Supervision:  The Field Supervisor reports directly to the Public Works Director. This person assists in directing and supervising personnel in the Water Dept., Sewer Dept., and Street Dept.



  • Oversee training of employees.
  • Manage staff, equipment/vehicles, inventory of supplies and materials
  • Oversee and assists in repairs and maintenance of Street Dept, Water Dept, and Sewer Dept
  • oversee projects, Coordinate, and schedule work
  • Help Oversee the Water Distribution system including the installation and repair of water meters, service lines, and water leaks, as well as complete utility locates and water sample tests, maintain and repair hydrants and valves
  • Help Oversee the Operations and Maintenance of the City’s Drinking Water Wells
  • Assist in the Operations and Maintenance of the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, and Sewer Pump Stations
  • Aid in overseeing the Sewer Collection System including the installation and repair of gravity/forcemain lines
  • Assist in Managing and overseeing the repair and maintenance of city streets, ROW’s, Street signs
  • Aid in managing the city’s Stormwater system, including ditch and culvert cleaning, keeps records of all activity and work performed, Maintain Storm Structures
  • Oversee and manage repairs and Maintenance at city owned facilities and Vehicles
  • Participate in the On-Call Schedule for off work/afterhours work
  • Participate and direct testing and inspection of all developer/contractor installed water and sewer Lines
  • Follow and enforce all Safety procedures and rules
  • Respond to request of the public and city staff
  • Participate in the creation of Yearly Departmental Budgets



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Have working knowledge of Water Distribution Systems, Sewer Collection Systems, and Public Works Systems
  • Have Knowledge of operations of a wastewater treatment facility
  • Have ability to supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate personnel
  • Have good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to organize and keep good records
  • Ability to create and maintain good working relationships with staff, supervisors, contractors, and public
  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws, and regulations pertaining to water and sewer systems.
  • Have Basic computer skills
  • Can operate equipment and machinery
  • Be able to meet physical requirements to perform all necessary work



  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma
  • Possess both GA Water and Wastewater Operator license or has the ability to obtain GA Water/Wastewater Operator License
  • Minimum of three Years’ experience in the water/sewer field
