Essential Functions:

Communicates and interprets codes and building requirements with homeowners, design professionals and division employees; reviews, approves and issues building permits for new construction, repairs, alterations and additions to single family and multi-family houses; verifies compliance with Zoning Ordinance; performs calculations of site design and building standards; coordinates permitting activities; verifies address and ownership with departmental database; verifies zoning district with appropriate software; enters all data for repair and alterations; processes payments; reviews survey and site plans to ensure zoning district requirements are met; enters all pertinent data for additions; reviews demolition projects; reviews subdivision plats; and transfers applicant to Land Development for site review.

Reviews and approves home-based business licenses; researches address and approved zoning; and assesses and approves commercial business licenses with a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) and holds licenses requiring a CO.

Reviews, approves, and issues sign permits; examines application packages to ensure compliance with Sign Ordinance; researches previous signs permitted; ensures occupants have applied and received a CO; ensures businesses have an approved CO and business license; and provides information to external and internal clients on the permitting and zoning process.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in Business, Public Administration or a related field required; two years of experience in permitting, zoning, and code compliance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required:  Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
