This is an on-site, in-office, position.

This employee:

  • Acts as a media liaison and spokesperson and monitor and share media and social media mention of MBPZ, including relevant articles/issues that would advise strategic directions
  • Develop and ensure written content released to the media/public via web and social media and are accurate and consistent with MBPZ vision and mission
  • Anticipates media interest and develops, correlates and implements communication strategies consistent with the MBPZ vision and mission in order to educate on agency policies and programs that enhance the understanding, perception and image of MBPZ
  • Develops ideas, edits and writes frequent content for MBPZ social media channels, emails, publications and website
  • Develops and disseminates information; research, verify facts and answer inquiries, complaints
  • Serves as project manager for the external and internal Department websites
  • Resolves public information issues via the MBPZ info email
  • Helps by representing MBPZ at public events and community activities
  • Represents MBPZ at formal and informal meetings and public hearings
  • Assists with policies and legislative requirements and/or issues and/or requests for information
  • Act as a resource to provide information or determine the most effective way of meeting the needs of management, staff, or customers

Principal Duties
The Public Information Officer will need to be able to:

  • Support and advice on communication strategy to further the MBPZ vision and mission
  • Develop strategy and communicate with media proactively and responds to media inquiries in a timely manner and that is consistent with MBPZ messaging
  • Lead projects and publications strategy, planning and execution for employee communications
  • Develop and ensure written content released to the media/public via web and social media and are accurate and consistent with MBPZ vision and mission
  • Project manage multiple external websites, including content creation, visual guideline enforcement, and experiential support
  • Prepare and coordinate issuance of public statements to the media and the broader public
  • Identify and prep subject matter experts for media interviews when appropriate
  • Write or draft correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials
  • Create and work with graphic artists, web designers, photographers, and videographers to gather and communicate information in a visual way
  • Edit and write material for accuracy, format, and dissemination using AP Style
  • Coordinate and/or act as a liaison between MBPZ and other agencies, work units, organizations, suppliers, etc. and coordinate and advise on communications strategy on joint efforts
  • Manage online meetings, video production, live streaming, and other methods of multimedia information channels

The Ideal Candidate
The model candidate for this position is someone who can:

  • Work collaboratively and productively over teleworks (either as a teleworker or with teleworkers)
  • Use logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions especially with emotionally sensitive and protected information
  • Use media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods including communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in AP Style writing and social media language with short deadlines
  • Speak clearly, concisely, and effectively; listen to, and understand information and ideas as presented verbally
  • Review and/or edit documents for accuracy, confidentiality, and relevance
  • Research methods, techniques, and/or sources of information
  • Use alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media
  • Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, respect and professionalism
  • Understand applicable laws, rules, regulations and or policies and procedures
  • Coordinate the activities or tasks of people, groups and/or organization(s)
  • Understand the agency and its organizational program(s)
  • Use word processing (Google platforms), presentation, layout/design, video streaming, and web-publishing software applications
  • Understand principles, theories, and practices of public relations as a management function and profession

The ideal candidate will have a background in public & media relations along with a strong knowledge of marketing, content creation, public policy and project and organizational change management. Understanding and being committed to cultural awareness and social justice is integral for this position, as the PICO must understand how equity, social, racial, and economic justice will impact communications.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field with two (2) years of communications, journalism, public relations, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license in good standing and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background checks.

Competitive Hiring Salary Range: $38,084 - $42,038
