The City of Monroe, Georgia is conducting a national search for an innovative and committed electric utility professional to serve as the next Director of Electric Services. Under administrative direction from the City Administrator, the Director provides general management of the City's electric department and has oversight of the Department. In 2022 the City of Monroe decided to establish a separate electric department to focus on the current and future growth requirements of the City’s electric priorities.

Monroe Electric Services (MES) takes great pride in helping to make the City of Monroe a great place to live, work, and play. Today, MES continues to provide reliable and affordable electric service to the residents and businesses of Monroe, while developing the flexibility and innovation to respond to the changing utility marketplace. MES remains committed to providing strong value to the City of Monroe community far into the future.

MES is an enterprise department within the City and as a result, receives no general fund dollars for operation. The annual budget is approximately $70 million with a complement of 14 staff, including 9 linemen.

Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; typical education would include a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent in an appropriate discipline. Typical experience would include five years of relevant experience in increasingly responsible engineering, finance, or management positions in the electric utility industry with direct supervisory or managerial experience.

Although Georgia experience is highly regarded in this position, all qualified candidates on a national level are strongly encouraged to submit credentials for consideration. In summary, the Director of Electric Services will provide dynamic leadership and vision to manage people and constructive change while mentoring, coaching, and providing staff development.
