**Job interviews for this position are expected to begin the week of November 28th, with a job start date of January 3, 2023.**

This position consists of highly responsible administrative and technical duties in accounting and finance.  The Accountant performs, reviews, and reports on financial transactions city-wide, ensuring compliance with all financial policies and procedures. This position works under general supervision and decides how and when to complete task. Some responsibilities include: Assists Finance Director with preparing and/or reviewing a wide variety of departmental   reports, including financial statements, budget reports, annual financial audit reports, and required reporting with the County, CVIOG, DCA, DOAA, GFOA, GDOR, IRS and MSRB.; Assists with the performance and/or review of accounts payable operations to ensure timely and accurate disbursements; receives and reviews invoices and other documentation for compliance/completeness; assigns proper vendor numbers and budgetary codes to invoices; confirms invoices have received appropriate approvals; researches invoices/contract discrepancies, duplicate payments, or other problems; works with vendors or department staff to resolve problems; maintains financial/auditing records; Monitors city-wide accounts receivable processes and related financial system activities to ensure the integrity and accuracy of collections and accounting; regularly reviewing procedures while eliminating inefficiencies; works to identify and implement new and innovative processes to improve operations, controls, and service to stakeholders; Assists with the maintenance of the general ledger and budget documents; creates new general ledger accounts in accounting software; prepares journal entries; Performs related duties as required.


Minimum Requirements

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to three years.
