Listing Summary

The City of Hinesville is accepting applications for a Building Inspector in the Inspections Department. This position is responsible for enforcing building codes and ordinances, ensuring their correct application in the field, and reviewing construction permit applications for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.

Major duties include performing plan review of new and renovated commercial and residential buildings, including planning, structural, electrical, mechanical, gas and plumbing inspections; inspecting all phases of construction and renovation; performing electrical, mechanical, plumbing, gas, footers, slab, setback and structural inspections for compliance with building codes and zoning regulations; enforcing the City’s backflow/cross connection program; reviewing permit applications for new and renovated construction to ensure compliance with mechanical, fire building, electrical, plumbing, and other codes and ordinances.


Knowledge of principles and practices of commercial, industrial and residential construction; federal and state building codes; structural, electrical, gas, mechanical, plumbing and fire prevention codes for building construction is preferred for the position. A high school diploma and a minimum of five years of experience in the commercial and residential construction industry is required.  International Code Council (ICC) Inspector Certification is required within a one-year period from date of hire. Special consideration will be given to those candidates that possess a current ICC Inspectors Certification.

The position salary range starts at $43,932.53 plus excellent benefits. The position is open until filled.
