CITY OF LITHONIA, GEORGIA
The City of Lithonia, Georgia seeks applications for the position of City Administrator.
Lithonia is poised for potential. It is in the metro Atlanta area yet very much its own community, with a population under 2,000. The elected leadership seeks an individual with impeccable integrity and a passion for developing a walkable, successful town center and safe, livable neighborhoods.
Named for its unique granite geology, Lithonia, which means “city of stone”, is located in eastern DeKalb County within the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. Lithonia’s close proximity to the scenic and natural amenities of Panola Mountain State Park and the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve provides a connection to these natural amenities through the PATH Foundation’s Trail system. Green space is already a priority in the region.
An elected mayor and five council members govern the city. The City Administrator is the chief administrative officer responsible for the city’s daily operation with direct oversight of four departments: Public Safety, Finance/Administration, Public Works and City Clerk. The City Administrator reports to the mayor.
Five years of progressive experience in city management is desired. Applicants should provide evidence of leadership in managing change and crafting community initiatives. In addition, the successful candidate will possess a strong ethical compass, an ability to communicate vision as well as tactical goals and a capacity to traverse a political environment with direct experience in working with elected officials. An ability to collaborate with regional partners is also required, with an emphasis on relationship building and identifying resources. Core skills include a working knowledge of financial statements, including trend assessment and forecasting; organizational skills with an eye for efficiencies and the role of technology in that process; communication skills (both oral and written); excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for customer service. Some remote work will be considered. The successful candidate has a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning; an MPA is desired. The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $71,000.
