Listing Summary

Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to perform technical accounting duties in support of the city's financial operations.

This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

 

Essential Functions

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

 

  • Balances general ledger accounts and generates audit schedules pursuant to external auditor guidelines.
  • Completes a variety of regular and special reports, including reports submitted to external agencies.
  • Processes month-end closings.
  • Analyzes department budgets to ensure budget guidelines are met; works with department heads to resolve problems; ensure items are correctly budgeted.
  • Reviews general ledger postings for accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • Prepares quarterly reports for the City Council.
  • Maintains capital fixed asset inventory for all city property.
  • Assists in preparing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
  • Monitors city bank balances to determine available amounts for accounts payable, payroll, and investments.
  • Prepares monthly state sales tax reports.
  • Provides support for payroll, accounts payable, and stormwater billing functions as needed.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Requires four (4) years of progressive supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Demands:

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Prefers Certified Local Government Finance Officer Program, Level 1.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
