Building Inspector

The City of Milton is looking for a highly qualified individual to serve as our Building Inspector.

The Building Inspector performs on-site inspections of commercial structures and residential, single-family detached structures for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.  

Essential Functions:

  • Performs daily field inspections of residential, commercial and public facility construction projects
  • Routes scheduled inspections daily for efficiency and to accommodate time requests
  • Interacts with the public and explains technical information to both technically and non-technically trained individuals
  • Maintains accurate records to document inspections, test results, and additional details pertaining to inspections
  • Verifies field conditions for compliance with approved plans, specifications, engineered drawings, permit requirements, and conditions of plan approval
  • Provides written correction comments with code references when inspections are failed or partially approved
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED equivalency with three to five years of experience with Interpretation of codes in the filed providing code compliant solutions. ICC Residential or Combination Inspector certifications is most desired.  Extensive working knowledge of building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes, and related Federal and State laws, City codes, ordinance, policies and regulations.

Salary: Position is considered non-exempt with an estimated salary starting at $56,873 (depending on qualifications) with excellent benefits.
