Job Summary

This position is a volunteer position for the purpose of fighting fire hazards in the County. This position requires volunteers to attend regular training sessions and be available as needed for fire containment duty.

Essential Functions

Volunteer firefighters must receive regular training as directed by the Fire Chief.

Firefighters must maintain a clear criminal record. This includes no DUI violations.

Firefighters must maintain a valid driving license.

Firefighters must attend regular meetings as called by the Chief for training and information.

Additional Responsibilities

Firefighters must assist in maintaining fire trucks and equipment in working condition.

Firefighters must be able to speak and write in the English language.

Firefighters must pass annual driving evaluations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for Job Performance

A knowledge of the geography of the county is required for emergency response.

The ability to use fire equipment in a proper and safe manner is required.

The demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team is required.

The demonstrated ability to work under stress and in uncomfortable conditions is required.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

This work is often performed under emergency conditions. This work may be performed during the day, at night, under difficult weather conditions, on weekends or holidays. Firefighters often are expected to work individually or in teams while carrying equipment and both giving and receiving instructions. Physical exertion is common, and each firefighter is expected to be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. without accommodation.
