Middle Georgia Regional Commission is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Dementia Care Specialist to work as part of the Area Agency on Aging. The Dementia Care Specialist serves as the subject matter expert regarding dementia in the middle Georgia region. This position will drive the effort to make the aging network more dementia capable by supporting the local network of dementia partners and stakeholders as a community catalyst, educator, and collaborator. The Dementia Care Specialist (DCS) will identify gaps in services and drive innovation so that constituents can access memory screenings and people living with dementia and their care partners can access long-term services and support (LTSS) options, including those provided through the Older Americans Act. The position reports directly to the Director of Aging Services of the Middle Georgia Regional Commission.
The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented individual who can engage collaboratively with coworkers and community members in a professional, resourceful, trustworthy, accountable, efficient, and innovative manner. Qualified applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in a health or human service-related field, or a Registered Nursing Degree with an active license in the state of Georgia and two years’ experience in the human services or health related field, or an Associate’s Degree in human services or health related field and a minimum of two years’ experience in working directly with aging or disability populations. The Dementia Care Specialist must also have at least one year of full-time paid experience or internship working directly with multiple people with dementia and family or informal care partners (for example, providing direct care, case management, support group facilitation, residential care management, home care).
