The City of Milton is looking for a highly qualified individual to serve as the Summer Camp Manager for the City of Milton Summer Day Camp.

The Manager’s ultimate goal is to maintain the integrity of the ideal camp environment:  one that is safe, supportive, and fun for all campers.  The Manager’s chief responsibilities to help achieve this goal are:  the training & evaluation of staff members throughout the summer, planning out each day’s activity schedule including creating and implementing strategies to help each child be as successful as possible.

The Manager position will serve two roles: 1. All the camp preparation leading up to the start of camp and 2. The supervision of the day-to-day activity of City of Milton Summer Camp.

This position will be Seasonal part-time from February - June. When the City of Milton Summer Camp begins, the position moves to full-time till the conclusion of camp.

The Summer Camp Manager reports to the Recreation Coordinator within the Parks & Recreation Department.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides direct oversight for all aspects of camp.
  • Plan, organize and facilitate all camp staff meetings.
  • Coordinates and implements camp schedule of activities; makes recommendations regarding purchase of supplies for camp; maintains inventory of camp supplies.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of camp program and staff.
  • Create weekly newsletters for camp parents.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures stated in the City of Milton handbook.
  • Responsible for ensuring that staff adheres to all rules, policies and procedures established for the safety and security of the participants.
  • Supervises and coordinates the scheduling of the seasonal counselor staff.
  • Responsible for collecting and handling in all staff time sheets in a timely manner.
  • Oversees supervision of Counselors – In – Training (CIT) and provides general direction to them.
  • Establish and maintain a good rapport with all parents, children, and staff. Greet parents as they drop – off and pick up their children.
  • Inform parents of any conduct problems or accidents that might have occurred during the program. Collect and maintain records for any completed discipline, incident, or accident reports.
  • Established procedures for reporting accidents/incidents; handles medical, safety and severe weather emergencies.
  • Responsible for learning all pertinent information for each child (allergies, special needs, etc.)
  • Coordinate set-up and cleanup of camp including group area/location assessment and schedule; monitors cleanliness of facility and ensures that routine daily cleaning is performed by staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required by Recreation Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by two to three years previous experience and/or training that includes supervision in a camp environment; or any equivalent combination of education and specialized training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Teacher certification is preferred. Computer skills preferred. 

Must possess or be willing to acquire the following certifications: Standard First Aid and CPR/AED (American Heart Association or American Red Cross). These certifications are provided through the City’s staff training seminar.  Certifications must be valid through the employment period. Must have a valid Georgia Driver's License. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening required.

Must be available all weeks of camp, training, and post-camp. 

Salary: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications; non-exempt.
