 This position will assist in the maintenance and repair of city vehicles and equipment.  Performs preventive maintenance, evaluates and troubleshoots vehicles and equipment to diagnose repair needs.  Repairs and services air conditioning systems.  Repairs and rebuilds engines.  Repairs hydraulic and water pressure systems, vehicle electrical problems and brake systems.  Evaluates and replaces alternators and starters.  Maintains assigned tools and equipment.  Performs related duties.  

Qualifications

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to the basic skills associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the duties of the position, having had a similar position for one (1) to two (2) years. Knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair procedures, mechanical diagnostic procedures, HVAC, hydraulic, electrical and brake systems. Skill in the repair and maintenance of a variety of vehicles and motorized equipment. Skill in the use of assigned tools and equipment. Possession of a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Work is performed while sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching or walking. Lift light and heavy objects, climbs ladders and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and distinguishes between shades of color. Work is typically performed in a shop and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, grease and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves or vests.
