Job Title:  Part-time Program Leader

Reports to:   Program Supervisor

Department: Active Living Division

Location: Oakhurst Recreation Center, Decatur, GA 30030

Work Hours:   Mostly afternoon and evening shifts; some day and weekend shifts are required.
 Hourly Rate: $12 - $15 per hour (DOQ)

 

Purpose of Work:  

The Program Leader is responsible for assisting and implementing recreational activities and providing supervision for participants within the guidelines of Decatur Active Living Division. Supervise open gym for youth and adults. Maintains proper use of equipment by participants. Enforce facility, equipment and program rules and regulations. Set up equipment such as tables/chairs, open gym equipment and gym floor covering for special events. 

The Program Leader will also assist Program Supervisor with organizing, scheduling, managing weekly adult/senior programs and supervision of  off campus activities , including adult/senior trips and adult club activities.   Communicate with participants, provide sign in and sign out sheets and collect program fees. Enforce facility, equipment and program rules and regulations.

Major Responsibilities:

Leadership – Creates a high performance work culture by demonstrating a positive attitude and modeling the City’s mission, vision, and values. Conducts self with high integrity, proactive in conserving city resources. Must attend training sessions and coaches meeting when scheduled.
 

Effective Management - Must be able to implement recreational, educational, cultural activities and special events for youth and adults. Takes initiative to accomplish tasks and identifies opportunities for improvement. Follows all established safety rules and departmental policies and procedures, and carries out oral and written instructions with minimal supervision. Be responsible for closing procedures including locking and securing the facility at night. Provides responsive and timely feedback on status and progress of work assignments to supervisor.
 

Teamwork – Creates an atmosphere of reliance and collaboration by building effective working relationships with supervisor, team members, city employees, etc. Demonstrates cooperation and initiative in helping team members, supervisor, and other city employees with developing and implementing programs and objectives to improve the department and City.


 Quality Service – Performs work under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor. This position provides supervision for facility security and appearance (including light janitorial duties such as sweeping, cleaning restrooms and other areas of the facilities); enforces program rules; supervises program areas and performs basic office duties. Responsibilities also includes ability to teach and lead various recreation activities and staffing special events. Maintain daily sign-in sheets. Performs additional related duties as assigned.  

 

Minimum Qualifications & Physical Requirements: 
 High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience working with youth, teens and the general public is preferred. Ability to lift 50lbs, carry, bend, twist or climb in setting up equipment. Requires knowledge of basic office procedures.  Basic computer skills required.  Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.   Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.  Requires possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Georgia drivers' license and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
