This assignment is from May 1, 2023 to August 31, 2023.  The student is required to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. The pay rate is $12.00 per hour.

Job Summary

The purpose of this internship is to assist the clerk of courts in preparing for civil, child support and criminal cases for court hearings. This is an ideal position for college students interested in law school as a career path or a law student.

The intern will have the opportunity to see the practice of law first-hand by reviewing cases to be filed, interacting with lawyers and court staff, and observing the role of witnesses and evidence in court proceedings. The intern will also assist and observe in the jury process by assisting the clerk with jury management.

Over the course of the internship, the intern will see a case from start to finish from the time it is filed until the case is resolved in court. Additionally, the intern will be exposed to all aspects of litigation and how legal decisions are made in both criminal and civil cases.  The intern will also learn about the jury selection process in detail from the selecting of jurors to jurors being empaneled.

Essential Functions

Duties include:

 * Preparation of files for both pre and post court proceedings, which includes interacting with lawyers, the district attorney, and pro se litigants;

* Assisting with the jurors’ questions in person, via email and telephone calls; and

* General assistance to the clerk in all aspects of the office which will allow the intern to actively observe court administration management.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for Job Performance

Must be an undergraduate or graduate student, a recent college graduate, or a law student.

Must be able to speak and write in the English language and have good verbal and written communication skills.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

This assignment is usually done in an office setting and is typically performed while sitting at a desk and intermittingly standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, or walking. This assignment may require lifting objects up to 30 lbs. without accommodation.
