Job Description
The Planner I, II, and III roles will perform multiple aspects of the review process, requiring more experience and skill in the review, approval, and permitting of commercial and residential site development projects as well as supporting larger, more complex projects. The Planner III may supervise staff, assist in formulating policies and procedures, and will act as the primary backup to the Development Plan Review Section Manager. The Planner position is assigned to the Development Plan Review Section within the Development Division. 


Essential Duties:

  • Reviewing, approving, and permitting commercial and residential site development projects located in unincorporated Gwinnett County. 
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and ordinances. 
  • Reviewing and issuing sign permits.
  • Addressing subdivision and non-subdivision developments. 
  • Meeting with and assisting design professionals, contractors, developers, business owners, and the general public regarding county regulations and ordinances.
  • Performing duties of a similar nature or level. 

Minimum Qualifications
Planner I (Grade C41(1)):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or related field.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to competently perform the essential duties of the position.

Planner II (Grade C42(1)): 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or related field.
  • Two years of Planning experience.
  • Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to competently perform the essential duties of the position.

Planner III (Grade C43(1)):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or Planning.
  • Four years of planning experience.
  • Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to competently perform the essential duties of the position.
