Purpose & Job Related Requirements

REPORTS TO:  Environmental Compliance Officer or PUD Compliance Coordinator, depending on assignment.
FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt
CLASSIFICATION:    Personnel System; Requires satisfactory completion of a 12 month probationary period.
PAY GRADE: 112
SAFETY SENSITIVE:  Yes; Subject to random drug testing per the Athens-Clarke county Drug and Alcohol Ordinance.

Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to perform technical/manual work functions associated with collecting wastewater samples for testing/analysis to determine compliance with federal, state and local standards.  Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: collecting wastewater samples from sewer lines, septage trucks and waste facilities; for compliance with federal, state and local standards; monitoring sewer lines for discharge and chemical/temperature levels; preparing reports; maintaining equipment; spill site, lake, pond, wetland, river, stream, creek, and grease trap samples, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Job Related Requirements

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm with rotating weekends; subject to call back as needed.  

Subject to call back unless assigned to Septage Program.
 
May be required to work on religious holidays.
 
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
 
Must work cooperatively with others. 
 
When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.
 

Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

High school diploma or equivalent, with six months wastewater/water collection system or distribution system operations experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. 
 
Valid driver's license required.
 
Must possess, or have the ability to obtain one of the following certifications: Class III Wastewater Operator, Class III Water Operator, Water Laboratory Analyst, Collections System Operator, or Distribution System Operator, within 12 months of date of hire.
