The City of Metter, GA. (current population 4040) is offering a unique opportunity for a qualified individual to become its planning director to establish a city planning and zoning dept.
Metter is located on I16, 41 miles northwest of the new Hyundai electric vehicle plant. Hyundai, a long with its satellite industries and suppliers will hire over 8,000 employees. Vehicle production is scheduled to start in early 2025.
Georgia Southern University just completed an impact study for the City in order for it to prepare for future population and job growth.The study indicated that by 2026, Metter will have a population and job growth of 11%.
The City needs a qualified planning director to oversee development and growth management in order for Metter to develop smart growth strategy to enable orderly and planned development.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the City Manager, oversees all planning activities, building inspection, and code enforcement programs.
MAJOR DUTIES
Maintain good customer relations in the administration of planning and zoning matters.
Meets with developers to review construction plans.
Answers questions regarding planning, zoning inspection and code enforcement matters.
Develops short and long range plans.
Principal technical representive to the City planning and zoning commission and board of appeals.
Oversees the City's building inspection and code enforcement programs.
Insures that planning and zoning codes are up to date.
Applies for and administers various housing and related grants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in urban planning or related field.
AICP certification or ability to obtain within the first year of employment.
Three (3) years of progressive municipal planning experience.
A combination of education and experience applicable to the position may be considered.
Valid State Drivers lic. or the ability to obtain one.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Starting salary $58,491.37 to $61,452.50 depending on experience, health ins., life ins., retirement, paid leave and holidays and professional dues and training.
