Work Hours: Work hours will vary between normal business hours of 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Flexible scheduling is available.
Purpose of Work:
The City of Decatur’s Human Resources Intern will have the opportunity to work closely with city staff on high priority projects as well as day-to-day human resources tasks. The HR Intern will report directly to the HR Specialist and assist with recruitment and training related projects, in addition to working closely with the HR Director and Payroll & Benefits Coordinator on other specialized assignments. This is a unique opportunity to learn human resources principles and see them applied in a high performing organization. Over the 9-week period, the Internship will cover all functional areas of human resources that support the department’s goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications & Physical Requirements:
Must demonstrate excellent communication skills and a strong attention to detail. Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of computer technology, including programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Ability to work independently and as a team. Highly motivated and flexible with a positive attitude. Must possess exceptional organizational, time management, multi-tasking, and analytical/problem solving skills. Takes initiative, seeks new assignments, and requests to learn more about HR functions.
Must currently be pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or other related field and have an interest in pursuing a career in human resources.
