County Prison Warden

Harris County, Georgia, with a population of 36,000 and located in west central Georgia along the Alabama border 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta and 30 minutes north of Columbus, is accepting applications for County Prison Warden. This full-time position, under the direction of the County Manager, supervises the county’s 160 bed Correctional Institution (CI) consisting of 33 full-time employees, contract inmate medical service, in-house food preparation, educational classes, and an annual budget of $3.4M. This position will:

• Manage and maintain the Correctional Institution using Georgia Department of Corrections standard operating procedures and county policies.
• Properly classify all inmates to appropriate work details.
• Ensure the Correctional Institution is safe and secure for both employees and inmates.
• Remain in compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
• Maintain outside contract work details with neighboring jurisdictions.
• Maintain the Correctional Institution near or at capacity.
• Provide training to other county employees that supervise inmates.
• Maintain positive relationships with the Georgia Department of Corrections and staff.
• Ensure staff and work details have sufficient resources needed to perform their job functions.

Minimum qualifications include bachelor’s degree in related field, at least five years of experience in the correctional career field in a supervisory capacity (warden or deputy warden of any correctional institution preferred), POST certification or ability to attain certification within six months of employment, familiarity with Georgia Department of Corrections policies and procedures preferred, knowledge of employee supervision and development, knowledge of budget preparation and control, computer skills, excellent customer service skills, and possession of a valid driver’s license.

Starting salary is negotiable and DOQ plus generous benefits including a defined benefit retirement plan with only a five-year vesting schedule.
