Leachate Plant Operator

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Under the supervision of the Leachate Plant Supervisor performs both skilled and unskilled duties necessary to ensure the safe and reliable treatment of leachate. Effectively manage within the guidelines set forth by the Environmental Protection Division for the collection, treatment and maintenance of Leachate cell pumps/pump stations, collection system(s) and related facilities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant operator, inspect, maintain and run plant, load chemicals, monitor plant operations supplies, wet wells and field pumps
  • Assists with routine good housekeeping procedures at the treatment plant including tool storage, sweeping, wet mopping, painting, washing down and cleaning of treatment tanks and equipment, and other related duties are being completed.
  • Under the direction of the Leachate Plant Supervisor, performs or assists in the calibration and adjustment of the various chemical, instrumentation, control, and sampling systems.
  •  Performs routine plant inspections using daily rounds data logger to accurately record plant process and collection system status, equipment status, and data. Maintains necessary daily logs and charts including computer data entry. Reports unusual conditions to the Leachate Plant Supervisor or his designee.
  •  Performs routine preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment, piping, tanks, membrane filtration systems and buildings as needed. 
  • Interacts with landfill operations staff to maintain current knowledge of landfill operations that affect leachate collection and/or plant operation. 
  • Routinely implements dust control plans for landfill roads and working areas.   
  • Equipment Operator , inspect and operate various heavy industrial equipment as needed , Dozier’s , Excavators , Packer , Off Road Dump Trucks , Farm Tractors and Moto grader when needed. 
  • Help Road Maintenance with various situations such as inclement weather.
  • Work with public in direction and disposal of waste
  • Help maintain landfill roads and other maintenance details. 
  • Adhere to all applicable safety rules and regulations to include those set forth by the Ga EPD. 
  • Ensure safe disposal of waste.
  • Work with supervisors and subordinates for day in and day out tasks that are required.
  • Perform all other duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

Education and Experience:

 

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

 

One year laborer experience required

 

Any combination of education and experience that provides the minimum level of qualifications above.

 

Licenses and Certifications:

 

Valid Class C License

 

Class B CDL is desirable

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of operating heavy equipment and maintenance of said equipment
  • Knowledge of the process, electrical, plumbing, ability to work with different personnel 
  • Ability to read, understand and follow safety rules and regulations
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with other departments and personnel to help manage and assure task are accomplished
  • Ability to work with people of all backgrounds, to help them understand and get through the process
  • Ability to get and maintain all certifications and license needed to perform job task that are required

Physical Ability:   Essential functions of this position continuously require the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) and move oneself by walking. Incumbents constantly handle stress and emotion; concentrate on tasks; remember names and other details; concentrate on tasks; examine and observe details; make decisions, adjust to change. Additionally; essential functions require the continuous ability to be on call; direct others; meet deadlines; operate equipment; and stay organized.

 

Essential functions of this position frequently require the ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips or knees; ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and ramps; maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces; repetitively use hands/arms/legs; and grasp items such as tools, levers, or equipment. Incumbents frequently must be able to think analytically and use effective written communication. Additionally, essential functions require frequent attendance at work related meetings or trainings and maintenance of stamina during the work day.

 

Essential functions of this position occasionally require the ability to move oneself by crawling on hands and knees; position oneself by crouching or kneeling; reach overhead; push or pull items; move/transport items weighing up to 50lbs. Additionally incumbents must occasionally be able to discriminate colors; work irregular hours (nights and/or weekends), handle confidential information; and use math/calculations.

 

Sensory Requirements:  Essential functions regularly require the ability to use effective verbal communication; use hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use tools and equipment.

 

Essential functions of this position frequently require the ability to use effective written communication. 

 

 

Environmental Factors:  Essential functions are continuously performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather; extreme hot or cold temperatures; humidity and moisture; risk of bodily injury from hazards of heavy machinery; dirt/mud, fumes, gasses, odors, dust, grease and oil. Incumbents may spend time constantly working with others.

 

Essential functions are frequently performed with exposure to risk of bodily injury from hazards of sharp objects/tools; extreme dry environments; extreme noise; vibration; and wet, slippery floors/surfaces. 

 

Essential functions are occasionally performed with exposure to risk of bodily injury from hazards of a biological, chemical, or electrical nature, risk of falling from high places/high heights; and working in constricted spaces. Incumbents may occasionally spend time working alone.
