Job Description
The Housing Inspection Coordinator is responsible for responding to citizen questions and complaints; performing thorough inspections of residential properties for compliance with the property maintenance ordinance and other applicable regulations; issuing notices and citations as applicable; and preparing detailed reports of findings.
 
Essential Job Duties:

  • Identifies safety hazards and structural defects on the interior and exterior of the properties
  • Assists staff with interpreting and applying applicable codes, laws, rules, and regulations
  • Trains new and existing staff on policies, procedures, and applicable codes and ordinances
  • Prepares reports, forms, citations, and other code compliance information, and documenting in the department databases
  • Maintains staff schedules, coordinates meetings and agendas, prepares reports, and researches and collects information
  • May be responsible for supervising assigned staff; participates in the selection and training of personnel; assumes responsibility for motivating and evaluating assigned personnel; provides necessary training; and initiates discipline procedures as is appropriate
  • Conducts single and multi-Family inspections and sets inspection appointment with tenants and/or property owners

 Public Speaking Duties Include:

  • Preparing and presenting cases in the Environmental Division of Recorders Court by testifying as to facts ascertained during investigations.

Other Job Requirements/Information
This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.

Grade
The grade for this position is C42(2).   

This position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Four years of code enforcement experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties  of the job
  • Valid driver’s license
  • ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification within one year of employment
  • Security and Awareness Certification within six months of employment

Minimum Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
 
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.   The incumbent works in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
 
Work is performed in an office (10%) and driving (90%).  This exposes the employee to much noise, dirt, dust, machinery, and its moving parts, as well as inclement weather.  Work requires the use of personal protective equipment and devices when needed.  Occasional Saturday work may be required.
