Planning Manager - Transportation Planning

The Gwinnett County Department of Transportation currently has a vacant Planning Manager position. This position is responsible for assisting the Division Director in prioritizing and tracking projects; ensuring staff are trained, and that employees are following policies and procedures all while maintaining a healthy and safe working environment.

Essential Duties

  • Reviewing plans to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and plan specifications which may include reviewing of rezoning request, traffic impact studies, developing regulation modifications, waiver requests, and zoning variance requests
  • Participating in the development of long-term transportation planning efforts, such as the county's Comprehensive Transportation Plan, SPLOST, and other similar local and regional planning ventures
  • Assisting in the preparation of the section budget, management of engineering and consultant contracts, development of RFP's, administration of designs, and provide other support related to departmental capital budgets
  • Serving as a technical advisor to other departments regarding engineering issues as a registered professional engineer
  • Managing the development and tracking of grant applications
  • Performing other duties of a similar nature or level

Public Speaking Duties

  • Ability to communicate effectively and engage with staff, citizens, and leadership as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, landscape architecture, geographic information systems, computer science, or planning
  • Five years of planning experience, including two years of supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above;
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer and/or certification as a planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)

Salary

  • $74,192 - $122,417 Annually
