JOB SUMMARY
Plans, develops, implements and evaluates community recreation programs for seniors, adults and/or youth, including special events, physical activities, special interest classes and summer programs. This job is mainly evenings and weekends.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Carries our supervisory responsibility in accordance with county polices, procedures and applicable laws in the development and implementation of community recreation programs; participates in hiring process; ' plans, assigns, and directs work; assists with performance appraisals; and reports problems to supervisor.
Develops, organizes, promotes and supervises classes, workshops and activities for persons engaged in recreation programs and co-sponsored programs.
Selects, plans and implements special events, physical activities and special interest activities.
Responds to public inquiries about athletic programs made by telephone, correspondence and/or during public meetings.
Prepares for publication a variety of calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications regarding recreation programs.
Schedules and maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel at the recreation center.
Coordinates sports programs, registers children for teams, collects fees, acquires coaches, assigns practice times, distributes and collects uniforms.
Schedules games and umpires for basketball, soccer, baseball, T-ball, softball, men's slow pitch teams, and other games.
Schedules and supervises various tournaments throughout the year such as basketball tournaments, adult & youth baseball/softball tournaments, men's., women's volleyball, and co-rec volleyball tournaments, etc.
Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, typing correspondence, running errands, and picking up supplies.
Schedules management of any concession related activities, including design, layout, operation, inventory, contracting and staffing.
Schedules activities at the community center.
Assists in the recruitment and selection of part-time and seasonal staff. Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience: A two-year degree in recreation, health, physical education, or other related field; and, One year of progressively responsible related experience; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid state driver's license. Current satisfactory motor vehicle report.
