Accounts Payable Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides leadership and coordination for planning, implementation, and assessment for the accounts payable policies, practices, and procedures.  This position reports to the Executive Director of Business Services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages and provides leadership to the Accounts Payable staff.  Determines priorities, manages workload, coordinates schedules, trains staff, and assists with employee evaluations.  Monitors Accounts Payable processes to identify areas for process improvement and ensures the District employs industry standard best practices.  Assures compliance with all audit findings to maintain an unmodified audit opinion.  

Coordinates and manages the District’s Accounts Payable operation for all funds and accounts.  Ensures accurate payment and accounting of invoices and employee expense reimbursements submitted to the District.  Participates in the monthly and year-end closing process, including reconciliation to the General Ledger, preparation and analysis of required reporting and filings.

Ensures prompt and accurate filing of Federal and State Tax Returns.  Manages the Unclaimed Property Process and files annual report to State Department of Revenue.  Coordinates the production of 1099’s.  Serves as vendor contact for problem resolution.

Ensures departmental written procedures are continually updated and documented.  Cross-trains with other department coordinators to ensure depth of coverage.

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order for you to perform the above services.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required, or equivalent experience required or must have equivalent work experience.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in governmental accounting with Bachelor’s degree required;

Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in governmental accounting with High School diploma required.

Prior experience in the coordination of a Payroll or Accounting department, in a K-12 public school or governmental entity preferred.

Makes supervisory recommendations which affect the activities of the District.

Analytical and detailed independent judgement required.  Makes decisions and recommendations under the guidance of the Executive Director of Business Services or Chief Financial Officer.

Requires regular, frequent contact with Director, Executive Director, and other internal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibilities to discuss issues of high importance.

Requires regular, frequent contact with external personnel of influence (i.e. external agencies, State Department, and related industry partners and suppliers) to discuss issues of high importance.

Excellent communication and presentation skills required.

Applies, recommends, and implements technology concepts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the District.

Responsible for the welfare of others constantly (daily).

Normal office environment.

May require travel to off-site training locations and school site visits.

Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.

Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) pounds or less.
