Job Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting with the maintenance and repair of county roadways and related infrastructure.

Major Duties:

  • Assists with constructing, maintaining, and repairing county roads, rights-of-way, bridges, ditches, and drainage systems.
  • Installs drainage pipes.
  • Locates underground utilities.
  • Assists in driveway maintenance.
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Assists with the maintenance of vehicles and equipment, including checking fluid levels, changing oil, and checking air, tires, blades, belts, hoses, and lubrication.
  • Assists in the design, construction, and installation of street signs; assists with traffic counts; assists in maintaining sign inventory.
  • Assists with the establishment and layout of construction projects.
  • Research property deeds for right-of-way acquisitions.
  • Flags traffic at work sites.
  • Cleans out culverts.
  • Cleans up storm damage.
  • Collects litter and debris for right-of-way.
  • Performs related duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

The successful candidate must pass a Background/Reference Check, and Pre-Employment Drug Screenings prior to the start of employment.
